Until 2019, Iconomix published an annual catalogue containing key figures, an overview of the modules and details of new developments. Since 2020, we have instead been referring to the SNB’s Sustainability Report, which, as part of its social contributions, also covers Iconomix – effectively serving as our annual report.
This story presents the Iconomix section of the SNB’s Sustainability Report, including the latest key figures, reproduced verbatim.

Objectives
The Swiss National Bank places great emphasis on economic literacy among the general public. Its engagement ranges from an educational offering for Swiss upper secondary schools and the SNB Forum information and events centre in Zurich to a series of public lectures under the banner of the Karl Brunner Distinguished Lecture.
Iconomix is the SNB’s educational programme promoting economic and financial literacy at Swiss upper secondary schools. The aim is to strengthen and maintain the skills of young adults in Switzerland in these areas. To this end, Iconomix offers high‑quality teaching units for use in economics and general studies classes.
Core offering
The core offering comprises teaching units available in up to four languages (German, French, Italian and English). The main target audience is teachers, who can use the units free of charge via the www.iconomix.ch web platform. The programme is supplemented by practice‑oriented continuing education events for teachers.
Thematic focus
The thematic focus of Iconomix is on the fields of economics and personal finance, with a special emphasis on current issues and challenges for society. On the economics side, Iconomix provides resources and interactive tools designed to illustrate economic concepts. This enables students to train their economic thinking and develop an elementary understanding of how the economy works.
When it comes to personal finance, Iconomix provides practical learning resources to help students build fundamental skills in managing money.
Coverage
In the year under review, Iconomix was used at a total of 373 Swiss upper secondary schools. Taking only the number of public schools according to Swiss Federal Statistical Office (SFSO) data into account, coverage is 83%. This means that at least one teacher logged into the platform at 83% of Swiss public upper secondary schools in 2025.
This high coverage is reflected in active use: Around 1,800 Swiss upper secondary school teachers actively used the Iconomix web platform in 2025. In relation to the total number of teachers of economics or general studies at Swiss upper secondary schools, this translates into a reach of around 40%. The three main linguistic areas of Switzerland have a similar showing in terms of usage and spread.
Focus topic
For each school year, Iconomix defines a focus topic addressing a current economic issue. The topic for the 2025/2026 school year is ‘Teaching monetary policy, inflation and the economy’. Four units, some of them new, address aspects of the topic at different levels of difficulty. They include an online magazine, a video topic block and a web simulation. Relevant symposia were held in Zurich and Lausanne in summer and autumn, with another planned for Lugano in early 2026.
