Video topic block’ units are ideally suited for students to learn independently at their own pace. The focus is on two possible applications: they can be used either as part of more individualised lessons or in the context of a flipped classroom setting, in which students acquire the unit content independently.
Lessons can be personalised by way of the worksheets, of which there’s one or more available for every video topic block. These worksheets consist of structured exercises, which are closely linked to the video content and help the students understand and process what they watched.
The video clips are easily accessible via QR codes and direct links.
The students can work on the exercises at their own pace and without support from the teacher. In the flipped classroom setting, students work on the exercises outside of class. This frees up in-class time for advanced questions, discussions and other activities to encourage further thought.
The video topic blocks are flexible and can be used either as an introduction to a topic or as a final consolidation at the end of a teaching unit – depending on the level of the class, the topic, and the desired depth of immersion into the topic.
A decisive factor in planning lessons is whether students work on the exercises in class or outside the classroom. It should also be clarified in advance whether this is to be done by hand or digitally on a laptop (using the fillable PDF form provided by Iconomix).
Below you will find various teaching scenarios. We particularly recommend scenario c, in which students work digitally on the exercises as PDF forms on their laptop and watch the video clips on the same device.
