iconomix newsletter – winter 2011
Editorial
Dear reader
iconomix gives your lesson added value. The current featured item on the euro crisis illustrates this perfectly. iconomix provides you with a wide range of teaching resources on the subject, and the blog keeps you abreast of developments. At upper secondary school level, the element dedicated to the European Monetary Union is currently the only teaching resource on the euro crisis. The currency crisis was also a point of focus for speakers at the 2011 iconomix symposium. These are just some of the ways in which iconomix contributes to an interesting and pertinent lesson in economics, and offers great training opportunities.
Thank you for your loyalty, and have a Happy New Year!
Manuel Wälti (management) and Julia Erdin (workshops)

Two new elements dedicated to saving and insurance (in German and French)
Why should I take out insurance? How does it work? When should I save money? And why? With the help of clear questions and answers, the two new elements provide a good introduction into the areas of saving and insurance. They are both supplemented by a set of worksheets using examples from everyday life.

Blog and multimedia links combined
The iconomix blog keeps abreast of what’s happening in the world of economics and suggests suitable teaching and learning resources, such as websites, videos, charts, interviews and books. Quite apart from being up to the minute, the blog is also committed to seeking out relevant material on the subject of economics for subsequent use in class. Furthermore, the list of links provided in most elements under the heading ‘Additional information’ is reviewed on a regular basis. This ensures that teaching resources and links remain up to date at all times.
