Teaching with iconomix modules
Modules are structured teaching units on the basic principles of economics which are taught over the course of several lessons.
Watch our five-minute video entitled «
Ökonomie entdecken – ein Einblick in den Unterrichthttp://www.iconomix.ch/de/service/didaktisches-konzept/module/#c480» (in German only) to see how iconomix is used in class and hear what teachers and students have to say about it.
Learning with iconomixhttp://www.iconomix.ch/en/service/educational-concept/modules/#c635 (in German and French only) describes the educational content, the skills framework and the educational concept behind the iconomix modules.
A series of documents provides information on the
integration of the iconomix modules into the curriculahttp://www.iconomix.ch/en/service/educational-concept/modules/#c5686 of Swiss upper secondary schools, sorted by type of school.
Concept behind iconomix à la carte
The à la carte section is a sort of ‘digital store cupboard’, stocked with adaptable elements – both relevant and practical – that can be easily integrated into lessons. Many of the elements deal with current economics-related topics and have been designed to complement resources commonly used in Swiss upper secondary schools, like standard textbooks or videos.

Basic economic principles
The educational purpose of iconomix is to promote economic skills. Young people should be able to understand the
basic principles of economicshttp://www.iconomix.ch/en/service/educational-concept/basic-economic-principles/ and apply them in the decisions they take in everyday life.
General financial knowledge
Yet another important area of focus for iconomix is the promotion of basic financial skills.

Key
Upper secondary school level
The upper secondary school level comprises all school types subsequent to completion of compulsory schooling.
iconomix courses
In addition to the teaching resources and an interactive website, iconomix also offers a range of training options for teachers.
These include on-site workshops (held at the individual schools on demand) and off-site workshops.
On-site workshops
iconomix offers schools half-day or all-day workshops which are held on the school’s own premises. These courses are held at the request of the school.
Off-site workshops
These workshops are provided by partner institutions of iconomix and are open to the public.
Registration and administration are managed by each individual institution.
iconomix workshops
In the workshops, teachers have the opportunity to test iconomix in a group and adjust it to their needs.
The peer-to-peer workshops are given by an iconomix coach and are tailored to suit the different types of schools.
iconomix coaches
iconomix coaches are specially trained teachers who work regularly with iconomix in class and work on contract for the SNB.
Educational content
iconomix describes basic economic skills as the ability to use broadly applicable economic principles in understanding everyday situations and in aiding the decision-making process, and the ability to apply these skills when dealing with finances.
Educational concept
The objective of the iconomix teaching resources is to enable students to apply economic skills in everyday life.
To this end, iconomix pursues an educational concept which does not just focus on imparting knowledge, but also focuses on teaching the necessary skills.
Curricula
The curricula define the teaching goals, educational content and other requirements of the courses taught at the different types of schools.
General curricula apply to the whole of Switzerland and, on the basis of these, specific curricula are formulated for the individual cantons and school types.
